He needs to open the chest in his own character's world to get the treasure map! The treasure gained from the map is connected to the current world (a fertilizer), therefore he needs to obtain it by opening the chest in his own world.

This bug will disappear with the next patch of the game! It happened when rebinding the Y-button to A or B (that is, moving the shield button upwards, or swapping the spell slots)
