Fixed already! But I feel like I should post this since I sent a few reports and also for other people who may have the same problem. I downloaded the DEMO, hosted, worked fine. Could play multiplayer. 5 minutes of great fun. Decided to buy it immediately.

Opened through regular .exe (I really dislike Steam, don't ask). Tried to host and it would crash every time as soon as I chose character. I even deleted entire APPDATA folder. I then opened through Steam and it installed 2 things before loading, after that it let me host.
