Perfect Barrier Guards Do Not Apply Special Effects

So according to the barrier description, perfect barrier-ing is supposed to give you "pguard status". However, perfect barrier-ing does not appear to give you this. I still have to charge my skills, and my hits have no crits (and I imagine no interrupt status either). I'm not sure I even get less barrier damage.
