My guess is that it has no stats, there are a few hats in the game that don't give any stat bonuses. I think they want the game to be fair so a "pay-to-win" hat is most likely not a thing.

Then you give it some fancy ability. It doesn't have to be a stat bonus, it could be a convenience ability or a sidegrade item.

I'm buying the game, regardless, but I'm trying to figure out why I would shell out the extra five bucks (+30% the base price) on a hat that gives no extra benefit other than looking nifty? The whole "but the devs will get more money" argument won't mean much to me since I've already persuaded two of my friends to buy this game, not even 24 hours after discovering it, as well.

The core mechanics, and aesthetics, are a great enough combo to hit that nostalgia itch on me. I honestly didn't find much fault in the game (other than the unfair lack of love for mundane ranged weapon style).

Played the demo, seems awesome, so I bought a pre-order through amazon checkout through your website. I think I am missing something. As I understand it, beta access is already underway, but if I misunderstood that, then please let me know an ETA for beta access. If beta access is already working, then where do I get my steamkey and/or where do I download the game? I received a payment confirmation from amazon, but have not received anything about my key or download.

You should get an email after your purchase goes through at amazon. The email will have a link to the keys you need for the beta where you connect it to your steam account. Hope it comes soon.

Actually its an email from Humble Bundle. The email came pretty fast after i purchased it with amazon.

However, I am very reluctant to buy it because the current play time of 8 hours for the story mode and the number of monsters (~ 20 ?) seem to me a little low.

How many monsters and hours of game do you expect in the final version?

Glad to hear you liked the demo!

When the game is complete it should take about 30 hours for full completion (if you do all side-quests and mini-games)! Probably around 50 enemies + elite versions and bosses.

The next few updates (next one should be up tonight/tomorrow) will probably just be bug fixes. Next content update will probably be the Memory Room which let's you re-challenge bosses!
