Reset pet levels

I think there needs to be a way to reset your pets level. My main character's pets have their levels spread over multiple stats so I can't level any one stat high enough to be useful. Maybe have it so you can talk to Oak to release a pet and he gives you a replacement pet bait.

I really had trouble getting the pets in the first place so I think it should be closer to refunding a skill but maybe a bit cheaper? And not getting anything back.

Setting a pet free seems fine by me. If you've caught it once, you can catch it again.

Using gold to undo every mistake you've made seems a little boring, the catching minigame is at least interesting enough to revisit.

TRUST ME I CAN'T, It took me like 2 days of playing for at least 5 hours EACH to get the jumpking and messing up on it and having to release it will KILL ME trying to get it back! AND WHAT ABOUT LATER PETS that are HARDER TO GET!!! BUT and I mean BUT they can still have the releasing mechanic. Maybe you could implement something like an easier "re-catch" thing where you play the minigame but its much easier... or they can add an easy mode for catching pets...

Assuming all pets are created equal, there's no reason to make all pets easy to catch. It's not the end of the world if someone can't easily catch the Jumpkin, Rabby or Slime are just as good. The only reason you would need it right here, right now, ASAP is if you needed to having everything in the game - and SoG doesn't exactly cater to players like that. :p There's a lot of very difficult Arcade Quests and Arena challenges which take more time than optional pet catching.

If you add an easy mode for catching pets you might as well add an easy mode for getting to 10,000 points in the archery challenge, or for getting the Crown at the Arena, or just about anything that requires a lot of skill or a little luck. Give players an easy route and 9 times out of 10 they'll take it if nothing is stopping them.

I know because I decided to use Insect Swarm in Arcade. :p

It has also been said that the Jumpkin's catching difficulty is higher than it's intended to be when they add more pets. Just like in Arcade mode they've made the last thing you do extra hard for no reason at all. :p I'm pretty sure that we will see a nerf for the Jumpkin minigame when they add more of the pets in.

I'd actually prefer if it gets harder and harder =P.
Taming pets is a minigame/side quest. It's completely optional since all pets are equal in stats. The only difference is in the cosmetics and I'm perfectly okay with a cosmetic option locked behind a super difficult minigame so that only those who are super dedicated can get it. Imagine being able to have a dragon or phoenix [pecko anyone?] following you because you were able to pull off a 5 minute DDR session with only 3 mistakes =P.

I see all of your points, and HIII!!!!!!!!! IHeartPie, but what I'm getting at is if it took someone (cough cough me) about 5+ hours to catch it the first time they why would they have to do that AGAIN because they messed up in the pets, ESPECIALLY if they end up putting a level limit making it impossible to fix or get the point where they want. I can totally understand all of what your saying but I believe it would be more of a nuisance than fun to recapture and RELEVEL, because you will lose all of your level not just one, because in your dragon/pecko (that has like 10 points in one level) will have to recapture and level because you messed up and leved another thing.

Edit: Yeah recapturing isn't very good when you lose every level not just one...

I don't think there is a problem with recapturing pets to reset the levels on it. I mean if they plan on adding 10 pets in total and you have 6 different stats to choose from then you'll have 4 pets to experiment on for your hybrid builds. Even if you start by making hybrid pets of the first two or three pets you'll still have plenty of time to figure out the optimal level path for your pet before you capture the last one (which may be the coolest one) so you can be sure that you'll have the right stats on it. If you want to use any of the earlier pets but you made one of them a hybrid instead of a pure DMG for example then you'll just recapture that one. It might take you a while but you have so many pets to choose from so if you want to use a specific one I think it sounds reasonable that you would have to work for it. :p

I haven't had much problem with the pet minigame but one thing that I think could be good to lower the difficulty in at least normal would be to remove Attack and Block in the game so you would only use the arrows. I wouldn't mind if the difficulty on the Jumpkin stayed at its current level but the hardest thing with the whole minigame is that there is no rythm to follow. I would LOVE to have some music that shows the rythm I'm supposed to press in time with. To focus on what key to press while also making sure you're pressing it at the same with only visual ques is very hard.

Okay this seems like the perfect solution. It would make it easier and it would much more fun for me. Also I can see what you mean by experimenting with lower leveled ones and I can say "yeah, that actually right." I think I was just over reacting a bit thinking of releasing the highest level one due to me messing up. :p

Lowering the difficulty on Normal for when you capture the pets is IMO a pretty fair thing to do. I mean it's really easy to switch over to Hard and capture the pet if you want the game to be difficult and if you've already captured the pet on Normal but want to capture it on Hard (maybe that could be an achievement) you could release the old one and try on Hard. What do you guys think? :p

I honestly don't think minigames / fishing / optional activities should be subjected to the difficulty system. If it can stunt your progress through the game (combat), sure, but otherwise... ehhh.

It's just that a lot of people have had trouble with capturing the pets so I just think that we should come up with some kind of solution for the problem. I mean we have to make sure that everyone can capture the pets. We can't deny players the later pets because some players don't find the minigame challenging enough.

Maybe instead of lowering the difficulty for everyone straight away you could add some item or some side quest that rewards you with something that helps you capture the pets. It could be something that appears later in the game so the more skilled players would have the Jumpkin while the people who struggle would just have to keep going a little more without the Jumpkin until they reach the quest/item that helps them complete the minigame. Just like in Pokémon, the further you get the better pokéballs you find which have a higher capturing chance. :p

1. Yes you can. But if you should is another question. The pets are 100% optional and if you have 1 or more pets the rest are just different skins. I mean a jumpkin is different than a rabby, but in essence it's the same.

2. Pets could have multiple ways to be unlocked. Right now we have the pokemon model: A player has to fulfil a task of varying difficulty to obtain a certain pet/animal/monster. But even in pokemon you can "buy" pokemon at casinos, or do certain quest and get them as gifts (lapras in red and blue) or have ingame trainers who are willing to give them to you if a certain requirement is met.

This could be quite creative. Like, one pet can be bought at the farm for 100.000 which is astronomical right now, but in the end it will be achievable; and you get one pet from an old woman who searches for a new home as she is too old to take care anymore; one can be rescued from other monsters and that will follow you from then on.

I really like the taming minigame, but i don't think that it is a good idea that you have 10 pets and every time the same game. I would be satisfied with 5 pets with the DDR (DanceDanceRevolution) minigame where the hardest is on jumpkin difficulty or just a little harder, but the rest should be something different.

- one pet can be exchanged with the girl that collects the plushies. Her daddy got her this strange moving doll and she would rather like a real doll. (mini yeti, or rabby or something other fluffy)
- one pet can be cought by fishing? You hear a strange tale from the Haddock/Griddle/Shady Merchant (or all of them) about a monter in the lake.
- one pet can be bought for a horrendous price from the rich people on the roof at the cafe
- one from the old lady that is too weak to take care anymore
- one can be befriended/rescued in the past of the time-travel-town and it will follow you when you get back to the "now" because it remembers you (First it is too young but then it is old and wise (with a beard))

and so on

Speak for yourself, I can get 100k in 5-10 minutes south of the Goddess Statue in winter. ;) And that's not including selling item drops.

If there's only ever going to be 6 pets I'd rather the DDR system stick. But if they add a ton of different pets? Eh, why not. Different recruitment methods ahoy.

I really like your idea! I wrote a thread about suggestion for pet improvement:
Hi, i'm personally a person of pet, i'll accept every pet you'll give me, even a pig! (i love pigs) but that's not the point xD

Sense I really love pets I think there should be and improvement on pets! The thing where you have to click and arrows and Z and X when it tells you is kinda annoying, its getting really hard on the eating pumpkin :/
so I think when you hold the candy there should be something else, currently i have no ideas but i'll post some if i'll have xD

Also, I know its just a Beta but i have suggestions for more pets :) When I was a kid, iv'e always wanted a giant furry dog so i can ride on it xD 'cause horses are to big and dogs are cuter and more flexible xD so i thought it'll be cool if you'd add like a place where there's giant trees and then giant dogs you could tame and ride on, and they'll be a little fast :) and for not making it OP you could do that you can't attack when you're on the dog :)

Iv'e also thought about a parrot that you'd find when there may-be a pirate quest (<-another suggestion).

Please reply what you think about it! And thanks for reading :)
