Can't get the present pet

The enemies keep attacking me, so I can't finish the minigame to get the pet.
I watched a video on Internet to check how to do it, and on the video, the enemies stop attacking him when using the item.

That is a bug that shouldn't happen.
Enemies should ignore you once the minigame has started. Have you tried to restart the game and capture the present again?
