Another way to balance this would be to either a) increase the rate at which Gold points are acquired or b) have the last 3 skill points be Gold, rather than the last 5. The latter would require some rebalancing as far as bonuses go, but the former runs the risk of overcorrection.

I have this bug as well! I noticed that the first time I used a controller, rotate was bound to X. Subsequent launches of the game have it bound to A. I don't know if that was a fluke or what, but I guess it's irrelevant as I can't seem to reproduce the X-binding. This is especially frustrating...
