Arcadia customization.

I'm not sure how feasible this actually is, or if it could work with the house customization code that's already in the works, but one of my favorite RPGs was Dark Cloud due to the fact that it let you unlock pieces of towns and customize them to your liking. The houses, the trees, the roads, the decorations, pretty much anything.

The idea of a town that grows as you get more points is interesting, but a town that grows how you want it to is a pretty cool one. People who load into your Arcadia village could marvel at how awesomely put together yours is, or grimace at the disaster that it is.

So instead of unlocking Katarina / the statue block and her appearing, you unlock 'The Sculptor', which includes both Katarina and the statue block to place anywhere within the bounds of the village that you like. Finish her quest and the statue block is detached from Katarina, allowing you to place the statue anywhere in the village that you like.

Instead of unlocking flowers and having 8 flower boxes appear around your village, you unlock 8 flower boxes to place however many of them you want precisely where you want.

Unlock a big building? Slam it down wherever you have plenty of space and it's entrance isn't obscured.

This would allow for score or Essence to be used to buy tons of new Arcadia buildings, NPCs, cosmetics or anything else to modify your village to fit whatever model you like. :)

The only tricky part would be making it so you couldn't be boxed into the village and unable to go into the dungeon, but that seems fixable by letting players put a Teleport Plate down anywhere in Arcadia they want. Load into Arcadia and you spawn on the Plate, where you can edit the village or reset it completely with the press of a button.

Arcadia's size would probably have to be increased considerably to allow for customization, assuming this is even possible to begin with, or worth development time. I'd personally adore village customization, though - it's something players could tweak over time and actually see it grow after each run. The house probably isn't going to be somewhere people go too often, for as cool as it's customization is likely to be. :(

But if the house can work on a grid system, as Vilya showed off here, perhaps Arcadia could too? :D
