Capturing that 16-bit feel. Resolution? Frames per animation? Color?

I'm curious as to whether or not anyone can comment on how true this game has tried to stay to the 16 bit era in terms of graphics. Did the developers put a hard line on pixel density or color restrictions or anything like that? How important is that to the developers, or is the 16-bit era acting more as an inspiration (rather than a reference for graphical limitations)?

The Resolution is set at 640x360 and will be upscaled.
All in all the 16bit era serves more as an inspiration to this games as much as this game is a tribute to the 16bit era.
So, graphical limitations - just the resolution
It's more about enhancing and enriching what ye olde games where like than being and old game

It's just like MrChocodemon says! We love the pixel art style, but we don't want to enforce any limitations that would slow down our process or limit what we can do with the game only to keep it authentic. For instance, individual sprites generally consist of a very limited number of colors (since pixel art tend to look its best that way), but we're not going out of our way to design entire areas that stay below a certain color count, and stuff like that.
