While in the arena i drink a potion then when i drink another it overwrites the buff with that of the new potion (not sure if bug or intended) feels weird

So you can only have one potion buff active at a time? I think that's intended. Having all potions active at the same time would be a little bit too good IMO.

it feels weird calling them potions something like rune stones sort of fits better in my mind
