The weapon perks in Arcade mode (sharp start, brutal start, smart start)
are supposed to change the respective starting weapon in your inventory (wooden sword, big branch, toy wand)
to a better version (apprentice rod, squire's sword, squire's claymore) and let the starting weapon disappear.
(The same goes for the 'tough start' perk which exchanges your wooden shield with an iron shield.)
These perks work fine with 'sharp start' (wooden sword), 'brutal start' (big branch), and 'tough start' (wooden shield).
Equipping 'smart start' also results in you getting a better magic wand, but the toy wand remains in the inventory nevertheless.
This little bug gives players with a magic build who use the 'smart start' perk, the incredible advantage ( yeah, incredible...) of having 12 gold more to spend once the Mystery Salesman appeares
