The Evergrind School serving its purpose.

This is another one of those 'things I should have thought about before the game released, but a future update when not in the mire of bugs might do well to add for new player experiences.'. :p

Everything written in the schoolhouse is more or less the exact same as it was before Flying Fortress came out.

Unfortunately, since that time a lot has been added to the game that hasn't been spelled out well or isn't immediately obvious. We've got a bunch of new mechanics and also new interfaces to utilize. Interfaces like the book page system seen across the game.

So, I propose cobbling together a few book prompts around the schoolhouse to serve the purpose of the Tutorial Room as soon in FF4 and FF6, brief little summaries of things that might not be immediately obvious.

Book One: Explains that skills evolve with investment. Five silver points, then five gold points.

Book Two: Explains the layout of the standard issue Collectors Map, top down and left right. Drops, Cards, Quests, Fish, Secrets, Pets, Treasure Maps.

Book Three: Explains that each pet can be leveled in different ways for different builds, that the stats these levels bestow are boosts to the player and not the pet. Explains that the higher a pets level, the more EXP every stat requires. So there's a choice as to whether or not you should feed -everything- to a single pet.

Book Four: Explains that sometimes enemies have health break points that trigger various effects. Maybe they'll become immune to flinching, or have a desperation attack. Keep a close eye on enemy behavioral pattern changes to figure out if these are happening, and how to adapt to them. (Maybe not as necessary as 1-3.)

Book Five: (If not adding a Special Effect item Appraiser to Evergrind) Explains that some equipment can be deceptively powerful, it only needs to be understood to be mastered. Something that gives raw stats may pale before a properly discovered Special Effect. (Also maybe not necessary.)

Other book subject options in brief:

Survivability - At times you will encounter enemies you cannot overcome through overwhelming force alone. The world bestows options beyond just the shield in these circumstances. The Utility Skill Barrier can completely absorb enemy damage, while the Talent 'Lady Luck' can negate it outright. For those who rely on health potions, the Talents 'Fine Taste' and 'Alchemist' can allow for swift, potent healing. In the event of a powerful enemy unleashing an ultimate attack, there is no shame in transforming yourself into a chicken via a potion to bypass the damage outright.

Shielding - Not all shielding needs to be perfect. While a well-timed shield can bestow many benefits - such as guaranteed critical strikes, swiftly charged abilities, instantly chugged potions and reduced shield damage - simply holding your shield up can turn the tide in your favor. A held shield can be strong enough to fend off a spinning Gigaslime, or intercept a burrowing Helloweed. In situations where holding up your shield guarantees it breaks - such as from a charging boar, a Gigaslime's hammer or the headbutt of a far larger enemy - it is always better for your shield to shatter than for your bones to. For those who want the perks of a perfect guard still despite the struggles, the Talent 'Quick Reflexes' will make their lives easier.

Grinding - Sometimes you may find yourself in search of a specific item or card, and find that your ability to kill exceeds the worlds ability to supply monsters. In areas where you see clusters of monsters, you need only wait for herds of monsters to crawl in and replace those slain. The longer you grind, the faster they come. The Goddess also rewards grinding - while the chance of a card drop may be random, with great quantities of enemies killed the base chance of receiving a card grows ever higher.

Collection - It is said that for a true Collector no treasure in the world is forever out of reach. Nothing is ever truly missable, enjoy your adventures at your leisure knowing that an unopened chest will eventually reveal its secrets to you.

Difficulty - There are those who believe that life has been too merciful. Enemies fall around them like autumn leaves, they dance between blows as gracefully as a twirling Spinsect. These individuals, in their folly, have beseeched the Goddess to do them no favors. They may find themselves facing off against stronger, more more agile opponents. Opponents with attacks hitherto unknown in the Collector's Handbook. This is considered a regrettable way to go through life. The Goddess provides no greater rewards for this behavior, and bestows them more strife than most any could endure. Only needless, senseless hardship awaits them, a sense of satisfaction few agree to be worth struggling towards. If they should find themselves regretting this choice, it is advised they reflect on their Options and make a change, revoke their boast and enjoy a more enjoyable path through life.

Experience - You may, after your ten-thousandth Green Slime, find that your peers further down the road have far surpassed you. While the Goddess rewards grinding, one may only find so much meaning in reading the same book a hundred times. When you have surpassed your enemies, the experience quickly diminishes. Seek greater foes, or grind monster clusters until Elites emerge for a greater experience.

Collector's Journal - Next to your standard issue Map you should find your journal, where any good Collector keeps record of their discoveries. This should be revisited often as a refresher to understand where to go on your many quests, explore your assortment of treasure maps and their rewards, examine the requirements of various trophies of achievement, examine how many of each monster you have killed and what drops may yet be undiscovered, or admiring the artwork and stats of the cards you have claimed.

And, well, on the off chance that there is a Arcade variant... :chicken:

Potions - Many potions do not have their buffs reset when moving between battle rooms. You may save yourself some time having a drink before braving the next encounter!

Healing - The health orb the Goddess bestows upon each new floor reached shall not fade if ignored. If you are only suffering bruises, leave the orb and return for it when death looms to properly utilize it!

Score - The percentage of score you enter the dungeon with does not only dictate a number at the end of the run! If you seek trophies of achievement, or completion of a quest, your score may go as low as 70%. However, if you wish to grow and progress towards your destiny, a minimum of 100% is required. Practicing beneath 100% may still serve you well!

Time Crystals - Exceedingly useful tools for more than just a second chance in battle! If you seek a specific trophy of achievement, completion of a specific Challenge Room or simply to practice a floor in the dungeon, intentionally throwing yourself before the monsters may serve you well.

Barrier - Don't be fooled by the tremendous recharge time! Any advantage you can scrape together will serve you well, every blow taken on the bubble is one fewer wound slowing you down. Barrier's cooldown resets upon entering a new battle room. Take note, however - for your score, the Goddess judges strikes upon the bubble the same as a strike upon you.

Golden Essence - Powerful boons await for those who may collect Golden Essence at the end of a journey no matter the percentage of your Score. If you acquire any of these, it may be worth your while in seeing what Bishop has in stock.

One last story one!

Retraining - You may find, in certain situations, that your skills are poorly suited to the task at hand. A skill apt at taking on an army of rabble may pale before a worthier opponent. Thankfully, Collectors are as malleable as clay! If you find yourself wanting to experiment with different solutions to a problem, it's as easy as inspecting your abilities and choosing to forget them. Do note that reinventing yourself may be more difficult as you grow stronger. It is better to experiment early!

There is actual information in the schoolhouse? Where? I went there several times and found nothing. I just thought that loading screen tip about the school was one of the things the developers didn't get around to implementing.
